Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo could well be set for a sensational move back to Old Trafford, as he admitted he's "missing" Manchester United.
After forming a formidable partnership with England talisman Wayne Rooney in a very successful 2008/09 season,Ronaldo was of course sold to Los Gálacticos for a world record £80 million transfer fee.
However, Ronaldo has now stated he misses England and Manchester United , where he won three Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and two Football League Cup titles under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Speaking to the (less than reliable) UK tabloid newspaper, the News of the World , Ronaldo said: "Of course I miss playing for Manchester United.
"Not just the club but my friends are still there, too. I played there for six years and that's a long time. Whenever I have the opportunity, I watch them play.
"I am still interested in watching Manchester United and, you never know, maybe in the future I could return to play there. It's always possible.
"I will not say I am not happy here at Real Madrid . I am really happy and everyone knows this is my club but, of course, I miss Manchester United, the boss, the players, because I left family there.
"I want to fulfill my contract here but, in the future, only God knows."
Cristiano Ronaldo, despite missing out to FC Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi for the 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year award, has remained in unbelievable form for the past few years.
So far this season, the Portuguese winger has scored 17 goals in 17 appearances for Real Madrid, and scored twice in Saturday's 3-0 win over Xerez in La Liga.
Manchester United may have the colossal gap from Ronaldo's departure filled almost by Wayne Rooney , but it would be nothing but positive for the club if Ronaldo did make a return to Old Trafford.
However, if United's dire financial predicament lasts as long as Ronaldo's six year Real Madrid contract (which is worth £13 million a season and has a £1 billion buy-out clause), then the chances wouldn't be great of Ronaldo making such a sensational return to the red side of Manchester.
And finally, on a little side note here, for all England fans out there Ronaldo gave his verdict on what Fabio Capello could achieve for the English out in South Africa.
He said: "Can England win the [2010 FIFA] World Cup? Why not? They have excellent players and an excellent coach."
