Seeds untroubled

The top seeds have made light work of the quarter finals at the ABN-AMRO World Tennis tournament in Rotterdam.

With No.1 seed Novak Djokovic already through to the semi-finals after Florian Mayer withdrew with a leg injury, the three remaining quarter-finals all went in favour of the higher seed.

Second seed Nikolay Davydenko swept past Austrian Jurgen Melzer 6-3 6-2 to set up a mouthwatering tie with another in-form player, Sweden's Robin Soderling who routed Frenchman Julian Benneteau in just 64 minutes.

Gael Monfils, the fourth seed, then knocked out Russian Mikhail Youzhny, the sixth seed, in the final match of the day to earn a meeting with Djokovic.

Meanwhile, Andy Roddick's bid for a fourth SAP Open remained on track in San Jose as the American won a serving shoot-out with Tomas Berdych.

There were no breaks of serve in the contest between the former world No.1, the winner in 2004, 2005 and 2008, and Czech player Berdych, as Roddick prevailed 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-5) to reach the semi-finals.

Roddick will meet compatriot Sam Querrey in the last four after the seventh seed defeated Michael Russell.

Querrey won 6-4 6-3 in 66 minutes.

The second semi-final will see Fernando Verdasco play Denis Istomin.

Verdasco, the second seed from Spain, recorded a 6-3 7-6 (7-5) win over Lithuanian qualifier Ricardas Berankis in the last eight.

Uzbekistan's Istomin, meanwhile, was a 6-1 1-6 6-3 victor over German sixth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber.

And in Brazil, top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero will meet Brazilian wildcard Ricardo Mello in the Brasil Open semi-final after winning his last-eight clash.

The former world No.1 claimed a 6-3 6-2 win over Argentina's Carlos Berlocq in one hour 31 minutes at the clay court tournament in Costa do Sauipe.

Mello, meanwhile, beat two seeds in one day, defeating Romania's Victor Hanescu 7-5 6-3 before ousting third seed and fellow Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-3 7-6 (7-3).

It was also Bellucci's second contest of the day after the previous day's washout forced him to play his second-round clash with Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who was beaten 6-4 6-2.

Russia's Igor Andreev will meet Poland's Lukasz Kubot in the second semi-final.

Kubot was also forced to play twice in one day, eliminating second seed Alberto Montanes in the second round 6-2 6-2 before winning his last-eight clash with Fabio Fognini - a 0-6 6-1 7-6 (7-1) second-round winner over Spain's Marcel Granollers.

Andreev, the fourth seed, defeated sixth seed Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-1 6-1 in his quarter-final clash.
